Things that are not taught in education but every designer needs to know.

The missing part of interior design: Things that aren’t taught in school but every designer needs to know.

Academic studies of interior design in institutes and universities build a strong foundation in the principles of design, history, technical drawing and design presentation, and yet most young designers quickly find after graduation that going from institutes and universities to work in the real world Become a major obstacle or an opportunity, this article has been prepared to be a guide to the important topics that are not often taught during school but are vital to becoming a successful career interior design engineer.

1. Designing is not just about the beauty of the place.

Designing is not only about beauty, but also about solving problems Many students devote their college years to making places more beautiful, however, beauty itself is not enough! A skilled designer designs an environment that functions with function, showcases the lifestyle of individuals and facilitates their daily lives.

Good design should answer these questions: How should this space make you feel?

Who uses this place? Why is it used? What is this user’s daily life like?

Students should not only focus on the colors, the mood board, and the beauty of the work! Instead, think about what problems this gap has to solve as designers.

2. Knowledge of materials and their identification is very important:

Having knowledge of how to use them is another matter, but the designer must understand that only by using a material must he think about (how much capacity does the material have?) How much does it cost? Will they be available to use in design? How are they used on the site? That is, for example, how is the design of a counter implemented on site? What are the problems you unconsciously create for yourself, the master and the design? Another thing is maintenance, how does the material repair over time and what happens to the material over time? Choosing materials based solely on appearance and beauty is a very common mistake. A successful designer chooses materials that have the right function for the space, the right cost, and suit the pockets, needs and desires of the homeowner or user.

3. Time management is an important design skill:

During school, deadlines for projects and lessons are set by the teacher, but in the real world and the working world, deadlines are set by the customer, project managers, or construction schedule.

• Create their own time schedule for each task, ie the start and end times must be set in advance.

• Divide the project into several stages, ie there are generally several stages: the beginning of the design, then before the end, then after the end of the design, which means preparing an engineering set for implementation.

• Monitoring the feedback of the landlord is very important to identify the flaws and mistakes that should not be made during the design, ie you must fully understand the other person why you are designing for a purpose? Then continuous review is very important during the design and even after the design is completed because something may have been forgotten, which is a good way to analyze and allocate time.

4. Having constant communication and awareness with each other is another design tool:

A designer not only creates drawings, but also expresses ideas, makes decisions with designs and builds trust with customers and employers. This requires good communication and self-confidence.

• What are the factors behind the design choice?

• Make decisions with the mind rather than the design being just a personal preference.

• Be very aware of the feedback from the teacher and those who tell you about the projects because something must have been forgotten during the design or could be improved in the way it was designed.

5. More expertise in engineering programs = more speed when working.

Most students graduate using a couple of specific design programs, but only a few can gain good skills in using the programs. In the real world, these engineering programs become a weapon for designers It is better to go after them for yourself, both your work will go faster and you will become more proficient, which is very important.

6. Having on-site experience is very important.

No books or lectures can replace how designs are created in reality, illustrating things to design is not enough only on the reading side you should look for opportunities to:

• Visit the sites where engineering work is being carried out related to the designers.

• If they can train with construction or design companies, make the most of the summer internships offered by their institute or university.

• Watching how to install, implement and use materials is important, even if it\'s from a video. These experiences are very helpful for design, thus avoiding expensive mistakes and unrealistic things.

Finally:

Academic study of interior design in colleges and universities is just a starting point. Studying doesn\'t teach you everything, it just shows you the ways. Your success is defined by having experience outside of study Challenge yourself and those around you to learn and do something better. Design is more than an art, it is responsibility, innovation, a strategy to solve problems in a place or space.
